Grinding Equipment
Vertical Stirred Mill
The vertical stirred mill handles fine and ultrafine grinding with a vertical orientation and stirred media bed. It follows primary grinding circuits, receiving feed from a ball mill or SAG mill. A screw or impeller agitates the media charge, applying shear and impact.
Technical parameters
It suits duties requiring a fine grind before downstream separation. Typical positions include regrinding of concentrates, tailings or intermediate streams. The mill generates a steep product size distribution.
The model table spans laboratory-scale units to full-scale production mills. Each model code reflects a specific chamber volume and motor power. Feed size, product size and capacity vary with model size, so the table helps shortlist options. Selection matches volume and power to the target throughput and product fineness.

Standard-model catalogue figures. Actual capacity, power draw and wear life shift with ore properties, feed gradation and circuit conditions. Use them to shortlist, then confirm the duty by testwork, flowsheet calculation and a written confirmation from the manufacturer.
What decides the selection
Before a model can be fixed, the project team must define the ore's grindability, the required feed and product particle sizes, and the target throughput. The circuit configuration (open or closed with classification), the desired media type and the available motor voltage and foundation space also constrain the final selection.
- Bond work index or measured grinding energy
- Feed and product particle size
- Pulp density
- Throughput
- Number of grinding stages
- Liner and grinding media selection
- Specific energy consumption
- Closed-circuit classification arrangement
