Submersible Pump

A submersible slurry pump operates fully submerged in a sump or pit, lifting abrasive slurries without a separate priming system. It typically serves mill discharge sumps, tailings thickener underflow, or dewatering applications where gravity drainage is impractical.

Technical parameters

The pump and motor are integrated in a watertight casing, allowing operation at varying liquid levels without the cavitation risk common to self-priming layouts. It eliminates long suction lines, reducing footprint and pipe friction.

The table lists models by maximum allowable power, construction material, performance range and impeller type. Model codes indicate volute and impeller variants, for example 40PV(L)-SPR, helping match the pump to the slurry’s abrasiveness and the required head-flow envelope. Larger frame sizes accommodate higher solid loads.

Standard-model catalogue figures. Actual capacity, power draw and wear life shift with ore properties, feed gradation and circuit conditions. Use them to shortlist, then confirm the duty by testwork, flowsheet calculation and a written confirmation from the manufacturer.

What decides the selection

Before selecting a model, define the required flow rate, total dynamic head, slurry concentration, particle size distribution and pH. Also confirm sump depth, available power supply and whether the slurry contains fibrous or long-stringy solids that could clog the impeller. These inputs narrow the choice to a pump with suitable material and hydraulics.
